Christmas Countdown: Day 2

This is another easy craft but one that took a bit of pre-planning. We gathered the supplies for this one last week but you could do it the day before or even the day of making them.

Today's craft is...

Painted Pinecones!

What You Need:

Pinecones!
Paints
Glitter glue
White glue
Glitter

How to Make it:

1. Go on a scavenger hunt for pinecones! Luckily, we live in an area that has plenty of them so they are easy to find...and free! I washed mine after we collected them and then left them for a few days to dry. However, I have washed them and then popped them in a warm oven to help them dry faster. Either way works.

*Did you know that pinecones close themselves if they get wet? So, if yours are closed and you want them open just keep them in a warm/dry place.*

2. Give your child some paints and a brush and let them go to town! My toddler experimented using a paintbrush, his fingers, and then finally settled on rolling the pinecones through different coloured paints on a piece of cardboard.

3. When the paint is still wet you can sprinkle some loose glitter on the pinecones to add a bit of shimmer. We also used glitter glue. And, we again experimented with rolling our pinecones but this time in the glitter.

And that is all! It's easy and fun and it is doubly great because you get to make a craft and you also have an excuse to get the kids out of the house for some pinecone hunting.

We use ours in glass jars and on Christmassy plates with candles. They are perfect for centerpieces!
